Core courses for all English majors (21 credit hours)

ENGL 2303 Critical Reading and Writing
One 2000-level survey of British Literature
One 2000-level of American Literature
One 2000- to 4000-level Creative Writing course
ENGL 3203 Advanced Grammar and Usage or ENGL 4213 Studies in Linguistics
ENGL 4463 Seminar in Rhetoric
ENGL 4762 Senior Seminar (taken Spring of the Junior year)
ENGL 4761 Senior Project (taken Fall of the Senior Year)

Literature track (15 credit hours)

All courses must be different from those taken to fill the core requirements
One additional 2000-level Survey of American Literature
One additional 2000-level Survey of British Literature
One 3000- or 4000-level literature course with a focus on diversity*
Two 3000- or 4000-level courses in any two of the following: Studies in Genre, Theory, Major Authors, Movements/Periods

Writing track (15 credit hours)**

ENGL 3063 Fiction Writing Workshop
ENGL 3163 Poetry Writing Workshop
One 3000- to 4000-level in a 3rd genre (nonfiction, screenwriting, etc.)
One 3000- to 4000-level professional writing course
One additional 3000- or 4000-level course in any of the following: Advanced Workshop, Topics in Writing, any Seminar, or Studies in Genre, Theory, Major Authors, Movements/Periods

*Course taken must differ from core requirement

** ENGL 2123 Introduction to Creative Writing must be taken to fulfill the Gen Ed Arts requirement

Students may also double major in Education and English and pursue certification to teach English at the middle and high school levels.
